al fresco dining guide

Relax and unwind this season with waterfront dining to suit all tastes and budgets.

Drinks with friends or just a casual get together with family is made all the more enjoyable when it’s done outdoors, right? Good food and al fresco dining goes hand-in-hand. Whether you’re after something light and fresh, or something decadent and full of intense flavours, these outdoor dining options positioned along our lakeside Promenade should be added to your list of go-to’s.

FRESH SUSHI

There’s something about sushi that makes you feel like you're eating some-what healthier. Perhaps it’s the cool dishes or the use of the freshest ingredients. Sushi Bay is situated on The Promenade, with great views and light flavours; try the salmon, tuna or mixed sashimi, or if you’re after something more filling, the miso or shoyu ramen goes down a treat.

DUMPLING DELIGHTS

Expect both traditional and modern varieties of dim sum, such as BBQ pork buns and seafood dumplings, as well as more substantial dishes like Special Fried Rice at Yum Cha Robina. After dark, the restaurant shifts to a la carte style dining, and it’s their Peking Duck, and Chinese hot plates and desserts that make it a popular haunt for locals. Yum Cha Robina even has pre-set banquet menus that will allow you to sample an assortment of different dishes at reasonable prices.

SUSHI, BURRITO OR BOTH?

Poke (pronounced Poh-key), is a Hawaiian favourite that has picked up a huge following across the US mainland. The food geniuses behind SUKI combined all the flavours of Hawaii with locally sourced Australian fish and produce and came up with something special, SUKI. Poke bowls are made fresh every time and allow you to chose any of their five base choices, six types of fish or four cooked protein options as well as tempe and tofu for our vego friends. All this loaded with over fifteen fresh salad ingredients and crunchy toppings options.

OLA'

Mexican cuisine is essentially fusion food; a tasty blend of Mesoamerican and Spanish ingredients and flavours. This explains its use of corn-based wraps, beans, chilli (that’s the Mexican part) and garlic, coriander, rice and cheese (that’s the Spanish part). The Mexican tasty burritos, tacos, nachos and quesadillas on offer at Salsa’s Fresh Mex Grill do Mexico proud.

BURGER CRAVINGS

Grill'd has been around for quite some time now, yet never disappoints when it comes to a good burger. These delicious burgers are all served with a healthy dose of value on the side. What’s more, their flame-grilled burgers are made fresh to order from quality ingredients. Dine in or takeaway, whichever works for you. Our classic fave would have to be 'Simon Says'.

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE

Warm beef, smoked salmon, grilled calamari salad, Thai-style curry, pasta or risotto, plus more than 12 tasty types of wood-fired pizza to deliberate over? Groove Train knows how to cater for all with their extensive menu and comprehensive kids’ menu to help match big appetites to little tummies. Finish on a sweet note with one of their delicious desserts, then linger over a coffee made from beans roasted locally.

DINNER AND SHOW

Fancy a fun dining experience that will delight the whole family? Kamikaze Teppanyaki offers both lunch and dinner sets where diners can choose from meat, seafood, noodle or vegetable options, grilled and sizzled right in front of hungry customers.

FOR THE CHOCO-HOLICS

Max Brenner Chocolate Bar will fulfil all cravings. Choose from rich hot chocolates served in the famous Hug Mug, warm pastries and decadent treats, or take home fine pralines and gift sets from the Chocolate Shop… because there’s an “i” in indulgence!
