TREND TO TRY: THE CROP TOP

DON'T DISMISS THE CROP TOP TREND - WE'LL SHOW YOU HOW TO MASTER THIS MUST-HAVE WITHOUT BARING IT ALL.

If there’s one trend this season that has everyone treading with caution, it’s the crop top. It’s a style piece many like on others but are hesitant to try themselves. The good news is you don’t have to have rock-hard abs to wear this trend with confidence. And while you may think summer is on its way out and you don’t have time to embrace the crop, think again. It’s not just a summer staple – it’s here to stay all winter long too.

Bardot’s current collection is full of different textures, lengths and styles that prove there’s more than one way to wear a crop top. Here are our top tips for choosing the perfect crop top, and how to style it this season, and next.

CROP STYLES

HALTER

The halterneck crop top balances the attention between your stomach and your shoulders. The cut-off style of a halterneck beautifully sculpts shoulders and arms while also concealing cleavage to ensure you’re not showing too much skin at once.

LOOSE

Crops don’t have to be skin tight or show a great deal of midriff. A looser style is flattering on most body types as they won’t hug your stomach. They don’t need to compromise on sophistication either; opt for a structured design for a more formal take on this trend.

HI & LO

A top that’s cropped at the front but long at the back will feel less showy and risqué, and is more versatile for any occasion. This style of crop top tends to be more flowing, which gives your style a relaxed vibe. However if you want to step it up, look for a hi-lo top with a peplum trim for extra cover-up and elegance in one.

SLEEVES

When it comes to winterising this look, adding sleeves is a quick fix. A simple cap sleeve is instantly modest while a full-length sleeve will warm you up when the temperature drops. This autumn, adopt boho off-the-shoulder sleeves, like Bardot’s Caught Sleeve Bustier or Elle Crop Top (which also features a hi-lo hemline).

WHAT TO WEAR IT WITH

HIGH WASTED BOTTOMS

If you only want to show off a hint of skin, high waisted shorts and jeans make the perfect complement. They bridge the gap so you’ll feel covered-up while still embracing the trend.

WAIST-CINCHING MIDI SKIRT

A midi skirt is the perfect silhouette to wear with a crop top. It creates volume below the hip so your waist appears slimmer. It’s also balances how much skin is on show. Try a luxe fabric like satin and add a statement necklace to transform this look from day to night.

A MATCHING SET

For a feminine look, team shorts, a skirt or tailored pants in the same fabric and texture as your crop top. A matching set is a quick and easy way to style your crop and look pull-together with minimal effort and maximum effect.

LAYER UP

Not ready to bear it all? Look to layers. It’s ok to ease into this trend with a little modesty. Plus, layering other pieces from your wardrobe under or over a crop top is the perfect way to make a style statement this season. Bardot’s St Tropez sleeveless blazer is our top pick for summer while a crisp white shirt looks chic underneath a knitted crop in winter. We also love a tuxedo blazer with matching tailored shorts for evening.
